ANNA MERAZ
Fashion Forecasting
I have developed the skill of identifying trends and forecasting fashion trends. This page will demonstrate the predictions I made in October 2019 about women's earring trends in Autumn to Winter 2020. Being able to identify trends will allow me to create more relevant and creative displays as it is important to look ahead.
Trends and Forecasting

History of earrings
By the early 1970s, ear piercings were common among women, which created a broader market for the procedure. Department stores throughout the country would hold ear piercing events. At these events, a nurse or other trained person would perform the procedure, either pushing a sharpened and sterilized starter earring through the earlobe by hand, or using an ear-piercing instrument modified from the design used by physicians. Today, earrings are designed in all colors and shapes, and are made out of many materials. Today’s trendy earrings include long, heavy earrings set with diamonds for special events, while smaller, gold stud earrings set with diamonds are more appropriate for everyday wear. Earrings have become a popular form of personal expression, and how and when they are worn, along with their function within an ensemble, became largely a matter of personal choice.

A / W 2020
Elevated staple hoop trend
Already a core item for jewelry collections, the simple structure of the hoop is a safe opportunity to experiment with larger scales and adornments. The opt for XL structures better displays over-the-top pearls, multicolored stones and shells. Styled with both casual and occasion ranges in-store to show the hoop's versatility. Dior, Alexander McQueen and Chanel have incorporated this trend in their runways and collections.

A / W 2021
Elevated staple hoop
trend
Post-pandemic, lasting lifestyle changes will continue to influence women's jewelry, with a focus on maximalist and contemporary statement pieces. This means a more-is-more approach to development is required, but designers need to be mindful of consumer spending priorities amid economic uncertainty and the growing demand for sustainable materials.
