"Offering versatile, accessible and affordable fashion with undeniably feminine appeal, special and unexpected details and a great fit".

Visual Merchandising/Management Internship at Loft

My time at Loft has been great thus far. The whole team has been so welcoming and helpful! Before taking on the role as sales lead I was a bit nervous seeing as though I did not have much experience in a management role. Although, I was confident in my abilities seeing as I have had four years of experience in the retail industry. The reason I wanted to join the Loft team was because I stand by the company's mission. Loft believes in “offering versatile, accessible and affordable fashion with undeniably feminine appeal, special and unexpected details and a great fit”. I have been following the company's social media and online website for a while now and they are truly on top of all the trends. They do a great job of keeping up with the trends all while making them appropriate for their target market.

I appreciate how helpful you were during my orientation. You were always making sure you weren’t overwhelming me with information and always checking up on me. During that time I was able to meet a couple associates who were all very welcoming! I was able to get a couple of hours of hands-on training with the POS system. Managing the online orders was something that was very new to me. Before Loft I had never had to handle online orders or scan/package them. Although, I found that I was able to quickly learn how the DOMS worked and tackled out quite a few that day. As my orientation day came to an end we discussed some more duties I would have as a manager as well as the visual standards that the store has. I enjoyed the visual merchandise training that Loft has on their site for employees. I found that I was able to get a better sense of the style Loft has when displaying their products.

Sales Lead at Loft

The hardest part about the week was the shipment. Throughout the week we got about 15 boxes of shipment full of new arrivals. In order to help get out the stuff in a timely manner I took initiative and had the associates work on opening the boxes and getting the garments hung up while I worked on finding a place for them in the store. I found that it was easier for me to find a temporary home for the stuff and then work on fixing the rooms before opening the store.

Loft has a monthly merchandising guide that they like all stores to follow so that they all are somewhat consistent. I made sure to look over the booklet to get inspiration on how to layout the different rooms in the store and how to dress the mannequins. I knew when a room was successful depending on how well the merchandise was selling throughout the week. Overall, even though I had a lot of work to do that week I found it to be very helpful to get an insight on how the roles of a store manager may look.
